A Graceful Transition BETWEEN ERAS
Unveiled in 1994, the Porsche 911 Type 993 represents a pivotal chapter in the 911’s long history. Not only was it the final generation of air-cooled 911s, but it also marked a significant leap in refinement, quality, and road manners. Its sleeker silhouette and thoroughly modern engineering helped bring Porsche into a new era, without abandoning its roots.
The Carrera 4 Cabriolet variant blends open-top driving pleasure with all-wheel-drive confidence, delivering a well-rounded grand touring experience that doesn’t compromise on traction or safety. It quickly became a favorite among those seeking a purist’s car with a luxurious twist.

Air COOLED
At the rear, the Carrera 4 Cabriolet houses the legendary 3.6-liter flat-six air-cooled engine, producing 272 horsepower in early versions (upgraded to 285 hp from 1996 onward with the VarioRam intake system). Its signature raspy, metallic exhaust note is unmistakably Porsche, and pure mechanical music for the ears. What sets the Carrera 4 apart is its permanent all-wheel-drive system, derived from the 911 Turbo, ensuring excellent traction in all conditions. A 6-speed manual transmission came standard, while a 4-speed Tiptronic automatic was available as an option for a more relaxed driving style. Thanks to its multi-link rear suspension and a more rigid chassis than previous generations, the 993 offers a more planted, precise ride, while still retaining the iconic rear-engine driving feel Porsche enthusiasts adore.

A Favorite Among ENTHUSIASTS
The 993 Carrera 4 Cabriolet quickly won over those who valued performance, sophistication, and year-round usability. It remains a favorite among collectors and enthusiasts alike. Notably, Harm Lagaay, the designer behind many of Porsche’s most iconic models, considered the 993 to be a perfect balance of heritage and modernity, the purest evolution of the classic 911 shape.
