CARRERA 3.2
Bridging TRADITION AND INNOVATION
In 1984, Porsche introduced the Carrera 3.2, the final and most refined version of the “G-series” 911, known for its distinctive impact bumpers introduced in 1974. After the SC era, this model marked the culmination of a decade of evolution while laying the groundwork for the upcoming 964 generation.
Built until 1989, the Carrera 3.2 is widely considered the definitive classic air-cooled 911, a perfect blend of mechanical purity and modern reliability.

Engineered to be DRIVEN
Despite its familiar name, the 3.2-liter flat-six was more than a bored-out SC motor. Heavily revised, it featured Bosch Motronic injection, new pistons, and produced 231 horsepower in European specification. Paired with the 915 gearbox (until 1986, before the G50 took over), it delivered sharp response and muscular torque. Performance figures were impressive: 0–100 km/h in under 6 seconds, top speed of 245 km/h, and all that without a single driver aid.
The 1985 model retained the classic shape : flared fenders, Fuchs wheels, round headlights, and that iconic silhouette. Inside, the layout was unmistakably Porsche, with the tachometer front and center and a cabin focused on driving. Available as a coupé, cabriolet, or Targa, it also came in special versions like the lightweight Clubsport or the coveted M491 “Turbo Look”, which borrowed the Turbo’s wide body and chassis components.

The best of BOTH WORLS
Though visually close to earlier 911s, the Carrera 3.2 represented a true turning point. It was the last to retain the raw analog character of the originals, before ABS and power steering became standard. For many, this makes it the perfect mix: an easy car to live with, but still deeply mechanical and rewarding.
The 3.2 has earned its place as the ideal 911 for connoisseurs and newcomers alike. Dependable, iconic, and pure, the 1985 Carrera bridges eras and continues to deliver that unmistakable air-cooled thrill, the kind only a Porsche 911 can offer.
The example presented at Timeless Classics is a beautifully preserved 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2from 1985. Originally delivered in Sweden, the car remains in 100% original condition and has covered only 64,000 km since new. The current owners arethe third owners of this exceptional example.
